Sascha Mehlhase (a postdoc at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen) designed a model of the ATLAS experiment in LEGO^® bricks. It illustrates all details, from the muon and magnet system to the innermost pixel detector. Many other copies of this model have been constructed around the world.

Here are some key features:

• about 9500 pieces
• roughly 1:50 in scale (close to scale with the LEGO^® man)
• about 1m x 0.5m x 0.5m in size
• approximately 40 hours construction time
